At Blue Orkids Wootton, we’ve designed every room and routine to give children a consistent, connected journey from their very first day in our baby room right through to their final term before school.

Starting with the baby room
The nursery journey often begins in our calm and nurturing baby room. This is where trust, comfort and connection are established. Babies are cared for by a small, consistent team who work closely with parents to mirror routines from home, whether that’s feeding, sleeping or settling.
The focus at this stage is on emotional security and sensory-rich experiences. Babies are gently introduced to play, movement, and exploration at their own pace. Our environments are cosy and responsive, with plenty of one-to-one attention and time for cuddles.
We believe these first relationships lay the foundation for confident, secure learning later on.
Growing into toddlers
As children grow and become more mobile and curious, they transition into our toddler space. This move is carefully planned and supported by their key person to make sure it feels familiar and exciting.
In the toddler room, learning becomes more active and social. Children begin to play alongside and with others, make choices, and take part in daily routines. We introduce more structured group activities while still giving plenty of space for free play and exploration.
This stage is full of language development, physical movement and emotional discovery. Our practitioners guide children gently through new challenges like sharing, problem solving and expressing feelings.
Preparing for preschool
In the preschool room, children are supported to become more independent and ready for school. This doesn’t mean rushing them or introducing formal lessons too early. It means helping them take greater ownership of their routines, develop resilience, and build on their natural curiosity.
Activities in this stage become more collaborative and intentional. We support early literacy, numeracy, and critical thinking through stories, games and open-ended play. Children might help prepare snacks, create projects over several days, or lead their own small group activities.
We also focus on school readiness in the broadest sense. That includes turn taking, listening skills, confidence in new situations, and building positive relationships with peers and adults.
The benefit of one consistent setting
What makes this journey seamless is the continuity of people, space and values. Because we care for children from babies to school age, they don’t have to start over every time they move up. Their environment evolves with them, and many of the faces stay the same.
Transitions between rooms are planned with care. Children visit their new space gradually, meet their new key person early, and often have familiar peers moving with them. This helps them settle quickly and continue thriving without interruption.
